Distinguished Alumni Award Information

The Alumni Award Program started in 2005 through the efforts of the Johnson Creek Education Foundation and the Johnson Creek Board of Education. The purpose of the award program is to identify and recognize outstanding achievements of alumni of hte Johnson Creek School District. It honors these individuals as role models for our students and encourages them to broaden their horizons and increase their commitment to future success.

The Nomination Process:

Anyone can nominate a person for Distinguished Alumnus.
Nominations must describe how the candidate has distinguished him/herself in a field of knowledge/scholarship, endeavor or a lifetime achievement.
Nomination forms will be available in the Johnson Creek District Office or on this page below.
The deadline for submission is April 1.

The Nominee:

Must be a graduate of Johnson Creek High School.
He or she must be out of school a minimum of ten years.
The nominee cannot be a current employee, school board member, committee member, or relative of the above at the time of nomination or receipt of the award.
The recipient must be available to personally receive his/her award at commencement ceremonies.

The Award:

The final selection will be made by a committee of the Johnson Creek Education Foundation comprised of the High School Principal, the Senior Class Advisors, the Student Council President, the Senior Class President and 2 members from the Education Foundation.
There will be no more than one award per year.
The award will be presented to the recipient at graduation.
Announcements/publicity of the award and recipient will be provided to area media, both here and in the area identified by the recipient.

Jim Braunschwieg

2008

Jim Braunschweig graduated from Johnson Creek High School in 1966. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1970, Jim began his career in the communications field, starting as a service technician for Rock River Telephone Company in 1971. When TDS Telecom purchased the phone company in 1982, Jim became the local manager and went on to be the TDS Telecom manager in Wisconsin and then moved on to his current position as TDS Telecom Regional manager in 2006. In recognition of his outstanding career with TDS, Jim received the TDS Presidential Inspiring Excellence Award in 1996.

While advancing in his profession, Jim worked tirelessly in the Johnson Creek community to create, develop and establish programs and opportunities for others. He reflects that his parents instilled in him and his siblings the importance of becoming involved in community projects and activities. Jim heeded their advice and says he believes, as they did, that “giving back” is essential to leading a full and satisfying life. His wife Cyndi is his partner in his current community roles and Jim refers to her as the driving force behind his community involvement. Over the years, Jim, an avid sports enthusiast, has been a player, coach and manager of numerous sports teams. He has coached baseball at every level, from T-ball to Legion Baseball. As an acknowledgment of his long involvement with local sports activities, Jim received the Johnson Creek Athletic Council Award in 2002. Always interested and involved in the community, Jim has served on the Economic Development and the Park and Recreation Committees of the Village of Johnson Creek. He has been involved in the building and maintenance of Johnson Creek’s Fireman’s Park. A volunteer fireman, he is also an EMT. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Farmington, he has served as church council president.

Jim’s wife, Cyndi, is an art teacher at Johnson Creek Elementary School. Daughters Lyndsi and Lyssa are graduates of UW-Oshkosh and are teaching as well. Son Josh is a member of the 2008 Johnson Creek High School graduating class and plans to attend UW-Platteville in the fall to study engineering or business.
